Periodontal treatment is necessary when various conditions affect the health of your gums and the surrounding bone supporting your natural teeth. Retaining your teeth for a lifetime is directly dependent on proper periodontal care and maintenance.

Healthy gums enhance the appearance of your teeth, like a frame around a beautiful painting. When your gums become unhealthy, they can become swollen and inflamed, bleed and recede. Mouth odor can come from this type of infection.

In advancing stages, the supporting bone is lost and your teeth can begin to shift, loosen, or fall out. These changes not only affect your ability to chew and speak. They also spoil your smile, negatively affecting your self-esteem.

Professional periodontal care is designed to treat and prevent progressive loss of bone support and teeth. Prevention of periodontal disease effects is our prime focus for all our patients, which helps prevent related health issues with heart, lung and kidney function.

Services we provide are designed to prevent tooth loss, treat tooth loss, and replace teeth with dental implants when necessary. These are:

Conservative Treatment

Dr. Wallace provides a variety of surgical services. We are conservative in our treatment recommendations and limit surgery to the areas where it is absolutely necessary.

Many times, the early stages of periodontal disease are best treated with non-surgical periodontal therapy.

If you’re diagnosed with periodontal disease, Dr. Wallace may recommend non-surgical treatment or periodontal surgery depending on how advanced your condition is.

Periodontal surgery is necessary when the tissue around your teeth is unhealthy and cannot be treated adequately with non-surgical treatment.

Deep Cleaning Of Roots

The initial stage of periodontal treatment is usually a thorough “cleaning” that will include meticulous scraping to remove plaque and tartar deposits from root surfaces beneath the gum line. During your preventive care cleaning visits, you will benefit from the best technology available for efficiently and optimal results.

  • Fiber optic lighting
  • Ability to irrigate with medicaments
  • Piezo sonic instrumentation
  • Increased comfort for the patient
  • More quiet and therefore calming
  • Less sensitivity
  • Less post-treatment sensitivity

Treatment
The tooth roots will be smoothed, allowing the gum tissue to heal and reattach to the tooth.
Antibiotics may be recommended at certain stages of your treatment to help control the growth of bacteria that create infection in the oral tissues around teeth.
