Conservative Treatment

Dr. Wallace’s practice provides a variety of surgical services. We are very conservative in our treatment recommendations and limit surgery to the areas where it is absolutely necessary.

Many times, the early stages of periodontal disease are best treated with non-surgical periodontal therapy.

If you’re diagnosed with periodontal disease, Dr. Wallace may recommend non-surgical treatment or periodontal surgery depending on how advanced your condition is.

Periodontal surgery is necessary when the tissue around your teeth is unhealthy and cannot be repaired with non-surgical treatment.

Deep Cleaning Of Roots

The initial stage of treatment is usually a thorough “cleaning” that will include meticulous scraping to remove plaque and tartar deposits from root surfaces beneath the gum line.

The tooth roots will be smoothed, allowing the gum tissue to heal and reattach to the tooth.

Antibiotics or irrigation with anti-microbials (chemical agents or mouth rinses) may be recommended to help control the growth of bacteria that create infection that causes periodontitis. In some cases, Dr. Wallace may place an antibiotic in the periodontal pockets after tartar and plaque removal. This is done to control infection and to encourage normal healing.
